SPIO-NH-NH2s are used in fields such as drug vectorisation, imaging, and nanomedicine, and are also used in catalysis with copper.
Why use SPIO-NH-NH2 ?
The -NH-NH2 functionalization, in addition to enabling the attachment of a molecule of interest via the terminal amine group, can create ionic bonds with metals (between the metal and the two nitrogen atoms), such as copper (Cu), for catalytic applications. Moreover, since the carbon chain of SPIO-NH-NH2 is longer than that of SPIO-NH2, this may be advantageous for certain applications.
